Interactive Bulletin Board

Did you know that there are 18 different languages spoken within our school community?  The students of the ESOL and SAIL programs worked together to create this "Welcome" interactive bulletin board.  We used flipgrid technology to capture videos of students saying welcome (or hello) in their home language.  You can use your cellphone or IPad to hear some of the languages.  A huge thank you for the technical inspiration provided by Joanne Gauley.  If you have any questions, please contact Cecely, Christine, or Joanne.  Enjoy!

Great Falls bulletin board is located next to the SAIL room, by the library.

Narragansett's poster is in the front hallway, between the cafeteria doors.

Village's bulletin board is located by ESOL room, next to the gym.

4th Grade ELA Clay Animals

After reading The Water-Horse of Barra, SAIL created their own magical animals out of clay.  Their creative writing pieces described what magical powers their animals had.

4th Grade ELA Comparing/Contrasting Texts

We created a Venn Diagram comparing/contrasting main characters in two texts (Uncle Jed's Barbershop and Richard Wright and the Library Card) with students from Mrs. Smith's and Mrs. Grady's rooms.

5th Grade ELA Sand Art Dream Animals

The Turquoise Horse,  inspired 5th graders to imagine their own dream animals.  They designed their dream animals with sand art and wrote about them.

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!

Did you know that there are 18 different languages spoken within our school community?  SAIL and ESOL are teaming up to create an interactive bulletin board.  SAIL friends used a program called flipgrid.  SAIL videotaped  friends saying "hello/welcome" in different languages.  QR codes will be created and displayed on the boards.

Viewers can...

📲Use your phone/IPAD to scan code.
🙂Open flipgrid.com when you scan code.
💻Watch the short video.

COMING SOON. . . Village will add to the Civil Rights Team's bulletin board by the gym.  We will add to the Civil Rights Team's board at Great Falls.  It's next to the Tech/SAIL room, by the library.  Narragansett will have a poster display.

Enjoy!

Math and Movement

4th Graders made a "MATH DASH" pedaling while they computed multi-digit multiplication and 5th Graders interchanged fractions, decimals, and percents.

Students SCURRIED to fill baskets of "pine cones" while solving a word problem.

4th Graders RAN then reduced fractions.

5th Graders HOPPED onto the correct benchmark fraction during an estimating fraction activity.

Mrs. Knott is comparing place values with Egyptian and Chinese symbols.

SAIL has set "sail"!

Students shared math strategies they used to attack and "net" math problems.  We discovered that math problems can be solved using many different strategies.

Mrs. Knott "dived" into math vocabulary.

Creativity and rich discussions "hooked" ELA students into creating slideshows for their short story book discussions.

What will students "catch" next?

Are you ready to set "SAIL Great Falls, Narragansett, and Village Schools?

We reviewed the Code of Conduct that all Gorham schools believe in.   Students gave examples of what the code meant to them.  The Code of Conduct will be displayed as a bulletin board in our classrooms.
